Summer Dessert!

I love dessert! And as you know so do kids. During the summer, there are numerous BBQ’s, festivals and outdoor activities galore, and you always want to bring something to your host, or have a sweet treat for your guest. You also see all the fancy cakes on Pinterest, Facebook, etc. and wonder “How did they do that? … That’s amazing!”. Well, it’s not nearly as hard as you think. My mom, who’s been a pastry chef for over 10 years passed this recipe to me to make with the kids. It is easy, no bake, kid friendly candy cake. It would take you longer to decide which candy to put on the cake, than make the cake itself.

What you need

1. A store bought prepared cake. Unless you want to be crafty and bake one from a box or from scratch! In all honestly unless your cake is from heaven no one will know the difference! She recommends a chocolate one. (The one she used for this specific cake is the chocolate fudge cake from Safeway Supermarkets) Be aware if you make it from a box or from scratch you will also need icing.

2. KitKats. A lot, depending on how big your cake is (you can never have too many)!

3. Marshmallows, M&M’s, candy corns, whatever other candy tickles your fancy!

4. Strawberries, blueberries, rasberries.
5. Nice ribbon

Seriously this cake is so easy to make a 4 year old can do it!

Work in progress

Take the cake and put it in your serving plate. Take the KitKats and line the outside of the cake with them, like you see in the picture. You can put a rubber band while you work on the rest to hold them in place. Although with the icing they should stay put. After they are lined, you can start piling your candy how ever you want it, until about 1″ from the top of the cake. Wash you berries and place them on top of the cake until it covers the candy. Wrap the cake with the nice ribbon and voila! This cake is sure to make your friends oohhh and ahhh and your kids will love to try their creation.
