I am a big tennis fan, but I have to admit that I still think my kids are young to sit under the sun at the U.S. Open, so what better way to introduce them to the game of tennis than with a day pack of fun at the Arthur Ashe Kids Day.  This one day event gathers tennis fans and their families to enjoy tennis, music and the outdoors, they even have special kids meals for this day!The event takes place the Saturday before the U.S. Open starts. Families are invited to the grounds of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in NYC. Throughout the grounds there are different activities like an obstacle course, tennis clinics, face painting, balloon art and the likes. There are also players practicing throughout the day, so it’s a great day to go try to get some autographs!During the day there is also a concert. This is no ordinary concert. This is all about the kids, so of course there are kids ruling the courts. This year it was a treat to see awesome kids playing against Novak DJokovic (yeah, that’s right- the #1 player in the world!). He was super awesome playing with the kids and working out with Shaun T. And, this year we got to see American Authors sing some of their best songs including Best Day of My Life.

This year, Hess, who is the main sponsor, had their mobile museum. They took all their Holiday Trucks since they began and displayed them by year. It was super cool to see the truck from the year I was born! To see the price change was also very cool. These are the kind of things that are fun and rare and I love that the kids get to experience them. We’ve been collecting the Hess Trucks since 2010, when a family friend bought it for my son for his first Christmas. Every year since then, they’ve bought him one and we buy another one to collect. Hopefully now that they experienced the museum and how the trucks have changed, they’ll understand a bit the value of such a toy.

Every year I make it a point to go. I don’t like super crowded places but Arthur Ashe Kids Day it’s tons of fun. The closeness to the players, tons of activities and just good family time. If you’re ever in NY or if you live in NY add it in your to-do list for next year.
